The Home of the Black Rhino

A Conservation Success Story

Located in northeastern Tanzania, bordering Tsavo West in Kenya, Mkomazi is a vital refuge for two of Africa's most endangered species: the Black Rhino and the African Wild Dog.

Wild & Rugged Beauty

"Mkomazi" comes from the Pare language meaning "scoop of water," referring to the little water available in this semi-arid savannah. Despite this, the park teeming with life during the rains and offers a classic, rugged African safari experience without the crowds.

It is easily accessible from Same Town, making it a perfect addition to a Usambara Mountains tour. The park is dominated by acacia-commiphora vegetation and majestic baobab trees, framed by the Pare and Usambara mountains.
